Mango airlines is a low
cost airline operating in South Africa (the other 3 low cost carriers in
South Africa are 1time Airline, Kulula Airline and Nationwide Airlines).
It is a subsidiary of South African Airways (SAA). Mango's first flight
was on the 15th November 2006, from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
Mango Airlines' holding company, South African Airways (SAA), was
bleeding business to the other low-cost carriers (Kulula.com & 1time
airline) and therefore decided to set up its own low-cost carrier. South
African Airways initially code-named Mango Airlines TULCA - an acronym
for "The Ultimate Low Cost Airline.
